UK Trusts and Foundations
AMREF’s projects are supported by a network of UK based trusts and foundations. Those which currently fund projects include:
The Headley Trust
The Headley Trust, one of the Sainsbury’s Family Trusts, has supported AMREF since 2004. It is currently supporting the trachoma prevention and control project in the remote Afar region of Ethiopia and has recently expanded its support to cover a wider area where trachoma is a major problem.
Band Aid Charitable Trust
Band Aid Charitable Trust supports projects in three of AMREF’s countries. Funding is directed towards the malaria prevention and control project in Afar, a particularly disadvantaged area of Ethiopia; an integrated health programme in Soroti district, Uganda; and a malaria control project in Mtwara, Tanzania.
John Ellerman Foundation
John Ellerman Foundation has supported AMREF since 2001. Currently it is supporting a programme manager to direct a malaria control programme in western Kenya.
Rowan Charitable Trust
Rowan Charitable Trust is one of AMREF’s longest supporters, first funding AMREF in 1992. Currently, it is co-funding the implementation of a trachoma control programme in remote regions of Kenya.
Wolfson College AMREF Group
Wolfson College is an Oxford University College which has supported AMREF for 30 years. Students raise money for AMREF’s projects from events held throughout the year and through contributions from their college fees. Each year, Wolfson College supports one health professional to take part in the year-long Diploma in Community Health course and also supports an additional AMREF project. This year, Wolfson College is supporting the youth empowerment project in Kabale, Uganda.
Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation
Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation has funded AMREF since 2001. It is currently co-funding AMREF’s integrated health programme in Soroti district, Uganda.
Somerset Local Benevolent Fund
Somerset Local Benevolent Fund has supported AMREF’s Clinical Officer training school in South Sudan for two years.
Big Lottery Fund
The Big Lottery Fund has supported AMREF since 1998 to implement projects across Kenya and Tanzania. It is currently funding AMREF’s community-based health care project in Kibera and a nomadic health care project in Turkana, both in Kenya.
Direct Relief International
Direct Relief International provides medical assistance to improve the quality of life for people victimised by poverty, disaster and civil unrest. It has provided medical equipment and drugs to many AMREF project sites as well as funding to support the training of health workers.
